The School
Blackhawk Christian School (BCS) is a college preparatory, inter-denominational Christian school. The school was founded in 1973 by Dr. David Jeremiah. Blackhawk Christian’s enrollment is 630 students in grades K-12 with another 86 students enrolled in our Early Childhood Program. Blackhawk Christian admits students of any race, national origin or gender and does not discriminate on this basis in its educational policies, financial aid, athletics or other school-administered programs.
Mission
Blackhawk Christian School exists to glorify God by partnering with parents to equip students for life through a Biblically based curriculum in a Christ-centered environment.
Area Churches Represented
Blackhawk Christian School is thankful for the opportunity to educate students from more than 80 local churches. The 10 most represented churches currently include: Blackhawk Ministries, Brookside, Central Church, Fellowship Missionary, Grace Gathering, Grace Point Nazarene, North Park Community, Pathway Community, St. Joseph UMC and The Chapel.
Accreditation
Blackhawk Christian School is accredited by the Indiana Department of Education as a Freeway School and is a member of the Association of Christian Schools International.
Instructional Divisions
Blackhawk Christian School is divided into four instructional divisions:
Early Childhood (ages 2 ½ – 5)
Elementary (K-6th)
Middle School (7th & 8th)
High School (9th – 12th).
Faculty
All Blackhawk Christian School’s faculty has a minimum of a Bachelor degree with the majority also having a Masters.
The average teaching experience is 15 years with lead teachers averaging 20 years experience.
Class Size
The average class size at the secondary level is 23 students with most classes ranging from 25-30 students.
Elementary classes range from 18 – 26 students. Early Childhood classes range from 10-16 students with 2 teachers.
Student Retention Rate
From the 2009-2010 to 2010-2011 school year, Blackhawk Christian School’s retention rate is 92.6%. (Retention rate represents enrolled students returning from one year to the next.)
ISTEP Info
The 2010 Spring ISTEP+ results found approximately 91% of all BCS students in grades 3-8 passing the English/Language Arts portions with 21% scoring Pass+. The Math portions were passed by 96% of BCS students with 39% scoring Pass+.

Advanced Placement & College Dual Credit
Blackhawk Christian School offers AP courses in Biology, Calculus AB, and US History. There were 42 BCS students in 2010 that completed 34 AP exams, passing 53% of them with a score of 3 or above. College dual credit courses are also offered on campus including Biblical Studies, Biology, Calculus, English Literature, English Composition, Leadership and U.S. History.
Internships
Blackhawk Christian School’s Professional Career Internship Program is a partnership with local professionals and organizations to expose Blackhawk students to potential career pathways. Some of our expanding intern sites include: St. Joe Veterinary Hospital, Brotherhood Mutual, Absolute Results, and various educational institutions. This experience supplements our student’s competitiveness in both postsecondary pursuits and career endeavors.
College Selection
The 48 graduates of the Class of 2010 enrolled in 20 colleges in seven states, with 81% attending four-year institutions. The highest number enrolled at Purdue, Indiana Wesleyan, and IPFW. Another 30% of the graduates attended other Christian universities such as Cedarville, Grace, and Huntington. Recent graduates have also attended the Air Force Academy, West Point, and Wheaton College.
Athletics and Co-curricular
Blackhawk Christian School is a member of the Indiana High School Athletic Association (IHSAA). Boys have the opportunity to participate athletically in Baseball, Basketball, Cross Country, Golf, Soccer and Tennis while the Girls compete in Basketball, Cheerleading, Cross Country, Soccer, Tennis and Volleyball. Athletic achievements include three Indiana Baseball State Championships, Boys’ Basketball State Runner-up and numerous Sectional Championships. Blackhawk Christian also offers strong programs in service and leadership development, choral and instrumental music, and theatre: recent productions include Oklahoma!, Seussical: the Musical, Peter Pan, Annie, and Get Smart.
