School Board

The school board consists of up to nine (9) members, six of whom are members of Blackhawk Ministries Church. Board members serve three-year terms up to a maximum of six years in succession. The board chairman is a Blackhawk Ministries elder and is appointed by the Blackhawk Ministries Elder Board. The school board meets monthly and is responsible for setting the policy of the school and for the performance of the lead administrator. School board members have authority as members only as they meet together as a board. Correspondence for the school board should be directed to the school board chairman or the lead administrator.

Blackhawk Christian School is very grateful for the time these individuals dedicate to pursuing godly wisdom while providing leadership for our school family.

Current School Board members include:

Board Chairman Maci Doden joined the school board in fall 2012. She has lived in Fort Wayne with her husband Eric for the past fifteen years. They have four children, Lawson, Quinn, Rylan and Jones, all currently receiving their education at Blackhawk Christian School. The Doden family is also active in Blackhawk Ministries, where they are members. Since 2003, Maci has held the position of Law Clerk to United States District Court Judge Theresa L. Springmann. Previously, she was an associate in the law firm of Barnes & Thornburg. Maci graduated magna cum laude from University of Wisconsin-Parkside with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science. While at Parkside, Maci played basketball for the Lady Rangers. She now enjoys watching her own children play sports, and occasionally assists other coaches in local youth and collegiate basketball programs. She obtained her J.D. from Valparaiso University School of Law, summa cum laude.


Connelly School BoardSteve Connelly is a Physical Therapy Director at Indiana Physical Therapy and joined the school board in August, 2015. Steve received his B.S. from Hillsdale College, and his M.S. in Physical Therapy from the University of Indianapolis.  He is currently serving with Neighborlink as a service project coach, Central Christian Church as an Upwards basketball coach, and at BCS as a cross country and track coach. He is a member of Blackhawk Ministries and has served in a variety of areas including small group facilitator, Sunday school teacher, men’s mentoring, and currently as a Blackhawk Ministries Elder.  Steve and his wife Melinda have four children, Donovan and Gabriel who are currently enrolled at BCS, and Brennan and Samuel who are homeschooled.
Tonya Faupel joined the school board in 2017. She works with her husband at Remedy LIVE and Circle City Audio educating and ministering to teens in the areas of suicide prevention and mental health. Tonya is a graduate of Indiana University, with a degree in tourism management. She attends and is involved in serving at Fellowship Missionary with her husband Clinton. They have four children at BCS, Ella, sixth grade, June and Nora, fourth grade, and Duke, second grade.


Jason MaleyJason Maley, is an alumni and currently a Regional Director, at Optiv Security for the Fort Wayne area. He received his degree from Purdue University, Fort Wayne in Computer Science. Jason is a member of Blackhawk Ministries and has served in a variety of areas including serving on the Elder Board and teaching in both adult and children’s ministries. He has volunteered at Neighborlink as a coach and also a BCS basketball coach. He and his wife, Lynnette, have four children, Jordan – alumni, and Weston, Jackson, and Alena who are currently enrolled at BCS.


tony-opligerAnthony Opliger is an alumnus and currently the Lead Pastor within Northeast Christian Church in Fort Wayne. He received undergraduate and Masters of Accountancy degrees from Manchester University and a Masters of Divinity from Columbia International University. Before serving within Northeast, he was a business professor and campus chaplain at Taylor University Fort Wayne for seven years. His wife, Hannah, is also an alumna and they have 4 children, Shalom, Sagesse, Moses, and Jubilee. Shalom is currently a second grader at BCS, and Sagesse is in Kindergarten. 


Chris Reber  joined the school board in fall 2012. Chris is President of Reber Sign Solutions. He is a graduate from Florida State University with  a degree in Marketing /Sales Management. He and his wife Dana have 3 children  Brittany, Olivia, and Emma. All 3 have been enrolled at Blackhawk Christian School and the family has attended Blackhawk Ministries for 17 years.


Doug RothDoug Roth joined the school board in August, 2014. He is Vice President of Finance and CFO of Do it Best Corp. Doug is a graduate of Indiana University and earned his Post –Baccalaureate Certification in Accounting also from IU. He also has earned his CPA designation. Doug has served on and is currently serving on various boards, such as HearCare, Big Brothers Big Sisters, and Associated Churches. He has also participated in Leadership Fort Wayne. Doug and his wife, Mikala, have three children, Jonathon and Nicholas are currently enrolled at BCS, and BCS Alumni, Alexis. Doug and his family attend Pathway Community Church.
Mike Scott, semi-retired physician formerly with Women’s Health Advantage, joined the school board in 2017. He received his BA from Wabash College, and MD from Indiana University School of Medicine. Mike values quality Christian education. He believes in encouraging students in their growth in Christ and their dedication to their studies while nurturing a spirit of humility. Mike has previously served on the BCS Board from 1996-2002 and currently volunteers tutoring elementary students at BCS on a weekly basis. Mike and his wife, Pam, have been members at Blackhawk Ministries 32 years. Their three daughters, Alison, Lindsay, and Erin, are all BCS alumni. Mike and Pam currently have grandchildren attending BCS. 


Mike VisserMike Visser is Managing Owner of Flat Land Dairy, in Antwerp, Ohio and joined the school board in August, 2016. Mike and his wife, Stephanie, have three children, Jared, BCS alumni, JP, and Justin. JP and Justin are currently enrolled in BCS. Mike has served on church and school boards in the past, as well as, a member of Select Milk Producers and Dairy Producers of New Mexico boards. Mike and his family are members and serve at Blackhawk Ministries.
