Open Enrollment for New Students begins February 21^st. BCS enrollment policy allows current families to re-enroll their students prior to Open Enrollment. New student applications may be submitted immediately and will be processed beginning February 21^st. Since we anticipate most classes filling with waiting lists, we encourage you to:

Re-enrollment for the 2012-2013 school year runs through February 20^th. Current families have received packets via the mail.

Open enrollment for new students begins February 21^st and we are receiving applications daily. Current students who are not enrolled by February 20^th are “considered as new students” regarding enrollment fee and acceptance. We anticipate most classes filling with waiting lists, so we encourage you to complete your re-enrollment within this 3-week window to ensure your child’s place at BCS.

If you did not receive your packet or need more information, just call or stop by either school office.

Paper Gator Recycling

2011 Parent Survey

Our strategic planning committee is again seeking parent input as we plan several years forward. Over 300 of parents participated in our 2010 Parent Survey last school year (October) and have impacted both our decisions and our school’s direction. This year’s survey addresses many issues learned from parent input last year.

So once again, we’re asking every parent of a BCS student to complete this survey by December 2^nd. I encourage both parents to take the survey individually. The survey will allow one respondent per email address. Survey results will be shared with all parents via a January Constant Contact and a BCS-wide parent event in the spring.

Blog: The Point

We have a new means of communication with our middle/high school students and families. Our publication’s class, under the direction of Mrs. Deb Graf, is developing a fresh, innovative mode of communicating. The Point will be similar to The Arrow newsletter with articles written by BCS students and staff. There are two ways that you can become a follower of our blog.

Go to our BCS website (www.blackhawkchristian.org) and click on The Point in the Quick Links and type your email address in the yellow box.

Once you become a follower of the blog, you will receive an email each time the blog has a new entry. We anticipate updating the blog about once a week.

Our hope is that all of our parents and students will follow this blog so we can celebrate our new, student-led publication. We are excited about this new mode of communication with families and trust that you will find it both timely and informative.

1 to 1 for One

Join us on Friday, October 28^th, 7:00 p.m. in the Worship center.
BCS and Lakewood Park’s 3-12^th grade choirs are singing together with musical artists Paul Stevens and Jacob Park.
It is a night of Worship and a fundraiser to equip students with technology that will prepare them for a successful future.
Be inspired by testimonies from students who want to share about their experiences in a Christ-centered education.
Learn how you can play an integral role in any future occupation of your children and grandchildren.

There is no cost to attend.
Bring a can of food to help stock the Harvest Food Bank,
who seeks to alleviate the hungry in the Fort Wayne community through donations from others.

New Dismissal Time and Procedures

Safety and efficiency are our two primary goals when dismissing our elementary students each day. After gathering input from parents and teachers, we believe the following changes will keep our students safer and allow for an even more efficient dismissal. These changes are will go into effect on Monday, September 19^th.

Dismissal time for students in grades K-3 who have no siblings in grades 4th-6th will be 2:45. If you have children only in grades K-3 we ask that you come at 2:45 to pick those students up. There should be less traffic with only these students being picked up for 10 minutes.
Dismissal for students in grades 4th-6th and their siblings in grades K-3 will be at 2:55. We suggest that parents not arrive significantly earlier than the 2:55 dismissal time so that families with K-3 children can pick their students up and not be blocked by parents waiting for the dismissal of 4th-6th grade students.
K-3 students who carpool with 4th-6th students will be dismissed at the 2:55 time.
Elementary students will no longer be allowed to cross State Blvd and be picked up at the Middle/High School. The large number of students who have been crossing the street this year has created numerous safety concerns. Safety truly is our number one priority and we believe that this is a necessary measure.
Elementary students participating in a sport that practices at the High School will still be allowed to cross the street under the supervision of the city crossing guard.
Middle and High School students will be allowed to cross State Blvd. if their parents would prefer to pick up their elementary and secondary students at the Elementary School. Middle/High School students who cross the street should gather under the porch in the elementary safety area.
New name cards for vehicles will be issued to all students. Students dismissed at 2:45 will receive gold cards and students dismissed at 2:55 will receive blue cards.
Rainy day dismissals will also operate using the changed dismissal times.
All other dismissal procedures will remain the same. Please click to review the traffic pattern map. These changes will go into effect on Monday, September 19th. We are thankful for your support and patience as we make these changes.

August 29 - September 2.

Middle school and high school students will be participating in a week of chapel and break out sessions. This time is designed to renew and recharge our students spiritually for this coming school year and beyond. Please be in prayer with us as we seek God’s renewal in our lives. Our chapel theme this year is “Crossing the Barriers.”
