Blackhawk Christian School has a 15 member group named the Rain Garden Club.  President Nick Balsiger, Vice President Chloe Wappes, and teacher advisor Mr. Freeborn took the Rain Garden Club outside to plant many different varieties of plants and grasses behind the school last Thursday.  A crew of over 6 people came as part of the Fort Wayne initiative to deliver and help plot out placement of the plants.  The Rain Garden Club had a fun afternoon getting their hands dirty, planting the garden, and would like to encourage everyone to come see their hard work.

]]> http://www.blackhawkchristian.org/2012/05/open-teaching-positions-for-2012-2013/feed/ 0 Summer Innovation Camp – July 16 – 19 http://www.blackhawkchristian.org/2012/05/summer-innovation-camp-july-16-19/ http://www.blackhawkchristian.org/2012/05/summer-innovation-camp-july-16-19/#comments Thu, 03 May 2012 18:22:42 +0000 mrich http://www.blackhawkchristian.org/?p=7320 BCS, in partnership with the Northeast Indiana Innovation Center, is offering this four-day experience promoting creative problem solving and experimentation in the areas of physics, robotics and design.  Current 10th, 11th and 12th grade students interested in “designing”, “inventing” and “figuring out how things work” are invited to enroll.  Activities will include a “Design and Build Engineering Challenge” contest, a day at Grace College science lab with tours of Warsaw area Biomet industries, and exposure to the hundreds of STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) related future career opportunities. Current 10th, 11th and 12th grade students interested in “designing”, “inventing” and “figuring out how things work” are invited to enroll.  Join other BCS and greater Ft. Wayne area students for this “engineering / innovation” experience. The “camp” will be facilitated by BCS science / physics teacher, Joel Guthrie; and Snider grad, mechanical engineer and current Virginia Tech Ph.D. candidate (engineering mechanics), Tim Hartman. The $200 registration fee includes everything: lunches, tours, transportation, and materials.

The camp will be held on the campus of our co-sponsor, Northeast Indiana Innovation Center. Guest presenters will include local STEM related practitioners (see brochure below).  

This highly personalized Summer Innovation Camp is limited to the first twenty-five (25) 10th, 11th and 12th grade students (including graduating seniors) who register.

Attendance will once again be very important on these testing days.

Testing Schedule:

8th Grade:   Monday and Tuesday Morning

7th Grade:   Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday Morning

6th Grade:   Tuesday-Friday All Day

5th Grade:   Tuesday-Thursday All Day

4th Grade:   Tuesday-Thursday Morning

3rd Grade:   Tuesday-Wednesday Morning

Observing these tips will put students in a position for great results:
1. Get a reasonable amount of sleep
2. Eat a healthy breakfast
3. Pack a healthy snack for the school day
4. Talk with your student about the importance of doing their best.

The theme this year is Ps. 33:12  Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD.

This is a community prayer service with everyone welcome to come.

Students will attend Chapel Monday through Wednesday and Friday at 12:05 – 12:46 with Service Day all day on Thursday.

  • Monday:  Pastor Donovan Coley – Director of the Fort Wayne Rescue Mission
  • Tuesday:  Heather Steman – Children’s Director of Charis House
  • Wednesday:  Pastor Mike Brown – Pastor of theMissionChurch
  • Thursday:  Service Day:
      • High school students will work in nearby neighborhoods assisting the needy and elderly with seasonal chores. Some students will work at area nursing homes and non-profits doing cleanup and socializing with residents. All students should pack a lunch unless other plans have been made by group leaders.
      • Middle school students will attend their classes in the morning followed by neighborhood work time in the afternoon.
  • Friday:  CONNECT Groups  (MIDDLE SCHOOL meets in the SANCTUARY)

Students were observed calculating expenses, gathering materials, reporting and writing about the news of the day, pricing products, selling and promoting their merchandise and even enjoying some pop and popcorn.  Students learned first-hand how to help run a business and saw economics come alive.

Recently the 5th & 6th grades went to J.A. Biztown. J.A. Biztown is a non-profit organization that is sponsored by businesses like the Journal Gazette,IvyTechCommunity College, andFort WayneCardiology. At Biztown, the 6th graders elected Adele Frederick for our mayor . Everything was exciting at Biztown from 3D printers, to the basketball shootout, to cases solved by our attorney! But, we want to say thanks to all the people who helped, including the teachers, and especially Mrs. Pulver who taught us all what it is like in the real world.

Go Braves!!
