Personal bio

After graduating from North Canton Hoover High School I headed to Ohio State to work on a degree in biology and physical education. Worthington Christian high school was where my teaching and soccer coaching career began. After 4 years I went back to Ohio State and received an MBA in 1980. Another career twist took me to Caracas, Venezuela where I taught biology in the International School of Caracas. While there I lived in a rooming house with Venezuelan college students and experienced some "immersion language learning." Great friends and experiences marked my 4 years there. From there it was back to the States and Fort Wayne where my Blackhawk career began. Most of my career here has been teaching high school biology including the Advanced Placement course as well as a long coaching career. After 35 years I finally turned that over to a very able young coach and focused on the teaching job.  Along the way Karen and I met. Karen currently teaches math at Lakeside middle school. We  began a family which resulted in 4 wonderful children, Ellen, Tommy, James, and Claire. They are all graduates of Blackhawk followed by Ellen at Kent State University, Tommy a Purdue grad, James our IU guy and finally Claire a recent Purdue grad. I'm very thankful for the good gifts and opportunities I  have enjoyed at Blackhawk these many years.
