Masks Required

Blackhawk Christian School will be honoring the mandate for K-12 Educational Institutions from our Governor requiring masks when entering our buildings. If for any reason you or your child needs to enter the building, i.e. camps, drop-off of paperwork, etc., we need you to plan on complying with the mask requirement as stated below:

Special Requirements for K-12 Educational Institutions: (from Governor Holcomb’s Executive Order dated July 24, 2020)

a.  Buildings, Facilities and Grounds: Also effective at 12:01 a.m. on Monday, July 27, 2020, and continuing until rescinded or modified by me, all public and private K-12 educational institutions shall require all students in grades 3-12 regardless of age, all faculty, all staff, all vendors, all contractors, all volunteers, and all visitors to their educational institutions to wear a face covering or a face shield while physically present in any building, facility or grounds at all times.

Thank you for your compliance.

The governor updated his executive order late yesterday in a way that we believe will allow our students to remove their masks when seated and spaced in the classroom.  The original order stated the following:

“Where a classroom or place of instruction can be configured so that all students and instructors can maintain six (6) feet of social distancing from one another at all times, face coverings or face shields do not need to be worn during in-person educational instruction.”

This was not an attainable arrangement in most of our classrooms, and therefore we communicated earlier this week that students should be prepared to wear masks in class. However, the updated order added the following language:

“Where a classroom or place of instruction can be configured so that all students can maintain at least three (3) feet of social distancing from one another at all times, and where students are positioned to face in the same direction, face coverings or face shields do not need to be worn during in-person educational instruction by students. Instructors must wear a face covering or face shield unless the instructor(s) can maintain six (6) feet of social distancing from students.”

With this change, we will be altering our plan so that students will not be required to mask in the classroom.  We believe this change will allow for choice that will be good for students. We will arrange each classroom in a manner that spreads student desks at least three (3) feet apart and faced in the same direction allowing students to remove masks if they desire.

Continue to prepare your child for wearing face covering in hallways and common areas.
