After graduating from North Side High School (a few years behind my good friend Joel Guthrie), I finished my bachelor's at IPFW then added my education degree in Biology and Mathematics at The University of Saint Francis. I was fortunate to teach 15 years at Wayne High School and learned so much about effective teaching and relationship-building from my peers there and the professional development I received from FWCS! In 2013, Joel contacted me about an opening at BCS to teach mathematics. I have been blessed to teach at Blackhawk since that fall. I have always loved the classroom - and being able to share my faith openly with students, pray together and read God's word in class has truly made the classroom at BCS the best job I have ever had!

What do you love most about teaching at Blackhawk?
Teaching has always been about the students - their growth and success! The ability to read God's word to, pray with and openly speak about Jesus with my students has made my relationships with BCS students so meaningful. I hope that they feel God's love for them and His plan for them as I interact with them in my classroom

Tell us a little about your family.
My wife, Heather Ann, and I met at IPFW and have been married for 31 years. Spend time with her and you will know that she has a relationship with Jesus! Being her husband is the greatest privilege of my life. We have a daughter, Grace (24) who is an ICU nurse at Lutheran Hospital and is married to Nathan Weaver. Our son, Jonathan (22) is a team leader and cook at Chick-fil-A. Both of my children graduated from BCS and I am so thankful for the investment my colleagues have made in Grace & Jon's lives!

What is one thing students might be surprised to learn about you?
I love to cook - especially the game and fish that I bring home.

When you’re not at school, what do you enjoy doing?
Hunting & fishing
